Overnight train to Rome

My family are I are taking a 1st time trip to Europe this summer. We are taking the Artesia overnight train from Paris to Rome and have booked a T3 sleeper compartment. I was just wondering if that would give us ample room for my husband and son who are both 6%26#39;1 and me, 5%26#39; short. I appreciate hearing from anyone with experience on those trains. Much thanks!

I wouldn%26#39;t say %26quot;ample room%26quot; but a T3 is the best option for 3 people traveling together. My husband is 6%26#39;2 and manages to fit in OK. My family have in the past 3 years slept in a T3 (with both kids in the same bed - my husband actually had a berth in another compartment but we wanted to be together incase the kids needed a toilet break in the middle of the night!) and a 4 person comfort couchette. The T3 has wider beds than the couchette and better sheets.

One thing to think about is the size of your luggage - The best option is carry on size but a 24%26quot; each would still be OK. If it is too big to go under the bottom bunk or too heavy to lift into the upper storage space you may need to leave it on the floor. I have seen lots of miserable people stuck in compartments with too much luggage - not fun so pack light!

The important thing to remember is that this is a sleeper compartment NOT a hotel room! Take a picnic to eat in your compartment and a bottle of wine to drink. You won%26#39;t have the best night%26#39;s sleep you%26#39;ve ever had but it can be a lot of fun.

Thank you HarleyB! I really appreciate your insight. I looked for pictures on the web, but the ones I found did not give a very good depiction. The overnight train will certainly be a new experience for us all. Much thanks!!!!
