Hi
I%26#39;m thinking of participating in an exchange with my university to Lyon, France. As a keen traveller I realise this could potentially be a great base to explore various countries. Just wondering how easy/cost effective is it to travel to Geneva, Turin, Marsellie, Nice and Monte Carlo from Lyon?
Also would appreciate any information on what Lyon itself has to offer.
Thanks!

lyon is a very interesting city, the whole city center is a UNESCO Heritage Site. It is also very centrally located in France, that will allow you to travel easily to the cities you mention, and also to Paris.
I suggest that you first browse this website to get a general idea of Lyon. And then come back with more precise questions.

Regarding train costs, you may check this using sncf website, you will easily get schedules and prices:

Most cities are within a 2 hour train ride. Paris is only 2 hours by TGV, Marseille 1 hour and 40 mn, so is Montpellier. Getting to Nice and Monte Carlo needs more time (it is farther and there is no high speed train getting there): it takes approx 4 hours 30 mn to get to Nice.
