Transportation from Amboise to Vouvray wineries

I have heard that Vouvray is not too far from Amboise and that there are several wineries in that area that might offer a tour in English or tastings.

I will be staying in Amboise and I am NOT renting a car. We will be depending on public transportation: trains, buses, taxis.

We would like to visit at least one winery.

Can anyone give me any information about buses or trains between Amboise and Vouvray?

Does anyone know about how much a taxi might be from Amboise to a winery in that area?

If you are familiar with this area, do you have a recommendation about a specific winery that might be convenient for a visit by taxi, bus, or train from Amboise.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

we stayed for a week in the vouvray area, and never saw a bus, no trains either in that area. Its very rural. I would encourage you to rent a car if you can. Its very easy to drive there. You could spend all your time trying to use public transport trying to get to one chateau!

Many wineries offer tastings, but the ones we went to spoke french. They were very nice, but small and off the beaten path. One of our favs was Claude Paris. They had very nice champagne style wines as well as other whites. Your hotel might be able to tell you how to get to a winery or one with english.

Another recommendation for the %26quot;Cave des Producteurs de Vouvray%26quot;, a very interesting tour and you get to try all styles of the wines produced in Vouvray.

My favourite winemaker and vineyard visit in Vouvray is Domaine Huet-

Thanks to EVERYONE for your very helpful replies.

I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to write and give me all this information which I will put to good use.

Thanks again.

Vouvray will take about 15 minutes by Taxi from Amboise, and if you don%26#39;t want to hire a car is the only practical way of getting there.

One producer in Vouvray who speaks good English is Nicolas Brunet. I have taken several English guests there. The website is

most of the vineyards are family owned, and will willingly show you around and let you sample the different wines at no charge; but they do hope that you will buy a few bottles to make it worth their while.

Hi, Sunlover,

Thank you so much for the information about the taxi between Amboise and Vouvray. This is exactly the information I was seeking.

I have made a note of the winery you mentioned. Do we need to make a reservation?

As far as buying wine, we will do OUR BEST!! I have already bought neoprene (foam)wine bottle carriers so that it will help to safely pack our %26quot;souvenirs%26quot;.

Thanks again for the information.

Hello Pacosmom

Normally you don%26#39;t need to make reservations, but then you risk picking a day when Nicolas is not there, and he is the only one in the family who speaks good English; so in this case I would advise making a reservation.

Thanks again, Sunlover.
