Yes, Rue Gambetta is fine. Its a huge long road so as long as it is the end near to the beach, then its a good area to stay.
Make sure the number of your accomodation is between 1 - 50 and you will be very close to the beach. If its 150 plus you will be too far out.
Its quite a popular area and about a 5 min walk to the Pedestrain Zone. There are restaurants, bars etc all around.
it will be about a 10 - 15 minute stroll to the Old Town. But it is right on the beach (providing you are at the right end).

I would definitely reconsider your choice of booking an apartment on Rue Gambetta. The section is quite nice, but it%26#39;s more than a stroll to the old town, especially returning home at night. The stroll to the beach or the Pietonne during the day is fine, but that%26#39;s as much strolling as you%26#39;ll want. Enjoy, wherever!

I M O, Rue Gambetta is ideal for the beach and supermarket etc, a few cafes nearby but indeed quite a stroll to the main areas of interest, this road is also quite busy from 7am through to 3am, best described as quite a %26quot;bustling street%26quot;,

I am fairly sure that there is no Rue Gambetta in Nice. The mile long road which leads away from the promenade is called Avenue Gambetta, then becomes Boulevard Gambetta north of the Russian cathedral. It takes about ten minutes to walk from the promenade end of the avenue to the old town but if you were at the northern end of the boulevard you would be a long way from anywhere. Provided that the flat is between the prom and Place Franklin I would certainly be happy to stay there. It is handy for the pedestrian area and not far from the train station.
