Has anyone been to the races in Paris, specifically the Prix de L%26#39;Arc de Triomphe? If so, can you give me tips as to what to wear? Is it very dressy?

No, it%26#39;s not at all dressy in the English sense (fancy hats and such). Sure, a lot of people there will be wearing shirt/tie/jacket and the people on the ground and in the winners enclosure will be looking loike a million dollers but the usual %26#39;crowd%26#39; don%26#39;t dress-up for the occasion (at least that%26#39;s what I%26#39;ve found).
Horse racing doesn%26#39;t get the same TV coverage in France as in the UK. Not only will thee not be a full daily coverage of all the races but the main race is probably only on pay-per-view TVa and isn%26#39;t IMHO an event loike the Grand National.
So, maybe leave the white trainers and blue jeans in your hotel room but don%26#39;t go shopping for hats either :)

Thank you for that. I was worried I would have to start saving for a new outfit but I now I think I%26#39;ll recycle something I%26#39;ve worn before.

We%26#39;re arranging to go to the Arc this year. How did you get on with organising tickets for Saturday and Sunday??
Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to purchase tickets for this event?
I%26#39;m not looking for an all-inclusive package, just entry into the race ground...
Thanks x

Dear Nicole49
I am probably well known on this forum for my enthusiastic posts about the Prix de L%26#39;Arc de Triompe. We go every year. I disagree that it is not very dressy.
It is true that some people don%26#39;t %26quot;dress up%26quot; and people wear everything from shell suits to couture, but personally I have always felt like mumpty next to the tres chic French women and the soo smart Irish so I always dress up as if I was going to very posh wedding, including hat and feel great.
This is a VERY smart social event and attended by the president and lots of important French people. There are lots of hats about and lots of very smart and rich women.
A recycled wedding outfit will do nicely. Depends wether you are going for the racing or the social event.

It cost 8 euro for entry. (Much cheaper than British raecourses) and you buy tickets at the gate. Ticket sellers are also all along the metro and the short walk to the course.

I agree with grndma. This is a tres chic event. It perhaps is more the English than the French but in any event, most of the women are in dresses and there are tons of great hats on women. Men wear suits.
I am told that horse racing isn%26#39;t that popular in Paris but this one event is the one time per year when people come out! Tons of English cross the channel for this event. It is great fun. I loved it (although I didn%26#39;t win a centime!)
The cost last year, as grndma said, was 8E. I purchased my ticket on line. I think the site was something like galop.francebillet.com. Gndma says you can get them at the gate. So it is up to you.
Its a great way to spend the day.

hi robin just niticed you are from Bolton too.
Satursay tickets are the same, but them at the gate but it%26#39;s cheaper and less crowded.
