My husband is a history buff and a few days of our October trip to France will include visiting World War I sights. Would love to have suggestions for cental place to stay and any other helpful hints.

There is alot to see in this area. In your other post you mentioned you would have three days. You might be able to see most of the main sites in that time. I wouldn%26#39;t neglect the sites south of Verdun such as Fort de Troyon, le Voie Sacre, the Monument at Butte de Montsec.

Nor the sites west of Verdun, Cote 304, the Butte de Montfacon, or the Meuse-Argonne Cemetery. Nor the cemeteries nearby of French and German soldiers.

We stayed near Ancemont at the Chateau Monthairons. I%26#39;m sure we would have enjoyed it more had we spent more time there, but we were also visiting friends further south and the drive there and back was long. (which is why I know you don%26#39;t want to be driving so far from where you are visiting.)

Try looking at Logis de France, Marne region. There are several options for towns around Reims, Chateau Thierry, Sommepy, and St Menehold that might work for you. Logis de France are generally good hotels sometimes great.

What WWI sites did you finally visit? We will be going in Fall 2008. Interested in times visiting each site and travel times between....we have 2 days in this part of France before we return a car to Lille, and take the Eurostar.... Thanks from a childhood resident of Abington PA
