Please help! The first time I went to Paris as a college student I stayed on the Left Bank and a friend and I probably paid $25 a night. When I went back it was with my family and we stayed at The Ritz. Now I%26#39;m in my 40%26#39;s and married. My husband has never been to Paris and we only have 4 days before we leave for Spain. I really want him to have a wonderful time and for us to stay in a great area. Although we could afford The Ritz, I really want to stay someplace that isn%26#39;t so formal. Just a cozy place that we can wear jeans during the day and sightsee. I%26#39;d love to be in a neighborhood that with great cafes and unique shops. A hotel that allows us to walk to many sights and is safe at night. Am I asking too much? All of our other trips the area and hotel seemed like no brainers...but this time I%26#39;m confused! Thanks for any and all help.

People who stay here can dress anyway they like (usually), the area is unbeatable, great cafes are nearby, the best and most unique shops in Paris are one block away, and there is no safer area overall:

I could also recommend something cozier in the 6th:

Hi DaisyMO3
I just returned from Paris yesterday. We stayed in the 5th at Hotel de Famille on Rue des Ecoles. It is a lovely hotel and described by other contributers. It had alot of character, the people were nice and and the price was reasonable. I felt safe there; nice restaurants and near everything. I would have to agree though with the other person that posted, the 6th can not be beat!!!! I have stayed in the 5,6,7 and 14th and the 6th is my favorite.

You can almost pick hotels by least cost in the 6th. We are booked at the Hotel Millesime for next month:
www.millesimehotel.com/discover-hotel-en.php
...partly because of the location between the Blvd St Germain and the Seine and partly because of the package they offer (Click on promotions). Staying here or any hotel in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and close to the river would allow you to use up four days walking everywhere - Latin Quarter, the Marais, Notre Dame, Les Deux Magots.

You can%26#39;t imagine how much I appreciate your help. So we will stay in the 6th! Now to nail down the hotel. Please expect a million more questions regarding favorite cafes, best croissants, etc! So excited for my husband. He took French in high school and college. Let%26#39;s see how he does when we are there! Thank you again. I swear this forum has changed my life. In April we are off to Ecuador, next April to Paris and Spain. Life is good! Thank you again.

pjk, thanks for the tip, it looks like a great location. I like the promotion with the Laduree macarons!
Daisy, we%26#39;ve stayed at the K+K Cayre in the St. Germain area. It%26#39;s consistently ranked high on TA for hotels in Paris. It%26#39;s right across the street from the Rue du Bac Metro. In the Right Bank, we stayed at Hotel Le 123 on the corner of Franklin Roosevelt and Rue Faubourg St. Honore. It%26#39;s a small boutique hotel with designer decor. It is also very close to a Metro stop, St. Phillipe du Roule.

Daisy, you guys are going to have so much fun!! I%26#39;m leaving in just a few days for my trip and I have also been taking notes from this forum (so far I have a list of good Croque Monsieur restaurants, good places for dinner and recommendations on how to find movies in %26quot;VO%26quot; -- the original version. Apparently I am planning to eat and see movies LOL)
Anyway, I am also staying in the 6th (at a much cheaper place, and I don%26#39;t want to say where yet since I have never stayed there before and who knows what I will discover upon arrival...) but the 6th is a great walkable place, and I personally love the Left Bank because it%26#39;s so easy to wander around and find little treasures.
You can wear jeans everywhere, by the way. High-end denim is everywhere, on butts all across Europe ;) And have fun in Spain!!!

You have a fabulous time and be safe. Please write a very detailed report when you come back. In the name of science and to benefit humanity you really should try to find the very best croissant so we%26#39;ll all know.
|||
I am all about the science, so I will DEFINITELY be researching croissants while I am there....LOL.
|||
Here%26#39;s my 2 cents for the 6th!
Your husband will love it...

I agree with the others, the 6th can not be beat (in fact, that is where my husband and I currently live as expats in Paris). Dauphine Saint Germain Hotel is a small quaint hotel in a great location, with wonderful outdoor cafes, Notre Dame, Seine River, St. Chapelle, outdoor food markets, art galleries, all at your fingertips. Be sure to stop in at a restaurant called %26quot;Fish%26quot; which is very close, and has excellent wine selection.
