Bicycling in Paris

I%26#39;d love to use the velo-lib bicycles in Paris but understand they require a French-issued credit card. Is there any way around this? A temporary card or something?

thanks -

Any card will do.

There is an authorization amount taken of your card at the mo of the transaction, €150 released upon return.

You don%26#39;t require a french issued card, any card with a chip inside will work. All credit card have a chip in France, but most USA issued card have not, so you%26#39;ll have to check yours.

Browse this useful website to check how it works:

Cards issued by US Banks don%26#39;t have the chip, that%26#39;s why so many people are asking how to use the Velib system.

I have read on some blogs and a New York Times article (Oct07) that the system WILL accept American Express cards and JCB international cards. But most of us use Visa or MasterCard, I think, and those aren%26#39;t accepted without the %26#39;chip%26#39;.
