7 arrondissement ot 10 arrondissment?

Hi,

I can%26#39;t decide which arrondissement to stay in with my husband and son in June - 7th or 10th? I have found a hotel close to the Eiffel Tower which is 2 stars and $300 AU more expensive (breakfast not included)comapred to a 3 star hotel I have found in the 10th arrondissement which includes breakfast and is near the two main stations? Does the metro cost the same no matter where in the centre of Paris you are: approx 1.40E, do children travel for free on public transport?

Signed...can%26#39;t make a decision

Well, you do not state the adress, so for the 10 th it can be a good area, or a less desirable one.

The metro will cost the same.

Hotel is situated on the boulevard de magenta...? Description of the 10eme I read: two great train stations in Paris located here. Multicultural neighborhood also contains a bohemian element...is that the part you were trying to point out??

Hi, Is there a particular reason why you want to be near two of the intercity stations? In Paris, the important thing is to be near a metro station, not the intercity stations (unless you have some particular reasons). The areas around the Gare du Nord and Gare de l%26#39;Est are not my favourite parts of Paris - think masses of traffic hurtling down big roads, no greenery, cheap hotels and cheap and often not particularly good places to eat. Think Spencers St station 30 years ago. Maybe multicultural, but definitely not bohemian. Of these two areas, I would definitely opt for the 7th (although that is very haute bourgeousie, not bohemian, but it%26#39;s a part of Paris that I love, lots of great shops, cafes, restaurants, convenient to get to lots of places; I stay there regularly). For something a bit more bohemian I would explore the area around the Sorbonne or the Marais (although sadly, that%26#39;s not nearly as bohemian as it was some years ago). Maybe others on TA can tell us where the bohemians have gone, the Marais is certainly very different now from when I lived in Paris.

Hi SuziMelbourne,

In September 2006 we rented an apartment in the 5th arrondissement which was great, nice area, easy to get around, close to the metro etc. We paid 100 euro a night booked direct with the owner. We had to pay a deposit at the time of the booking and the balance a month prior to our arrival. Certainly no problems and would stay there again.

As for getting around we walked, caught taxis and used the hop on/off bus. We only used the metro twice.

Good luck.

Hi Suzi, I will be staying in the 6th in September. I researched thoroughly and found that it was close to metro stops, markets, cafes, restaurants, the Seine and Luxemborg Park. I initially chose the 7th butchanged my mind. Look at the 5th, 6th and 7th before you make up your mind. The 6th is called St Germain and the 5th is called Latin Quarter. Type them in the go box for a search and you%26#39;ll see others recommendations on where to stay.

|||

I%26#39;d choose the 7th over the 10th; I%26#39;ve stayed there a couple of times and it%26#39;s a pleasant place to be. And try to walk or catch buses wherever possible as an alternative to the metro (unless you%26#39;re in a hurry) - you get to see so much more!

|||

Oh - and I second HenryandLily heartily on this, St Germain and the Latin Quarter are both great places to stay.

I stayed in the 7th last week during my first trip to Paris. I chose the area due to the view of the ET, as corny as it is. There are many local brasseries and cafes to choose from that have mostly local patrons and weren%26#39;t crowded at all. The area was quiet compared to other areas but busy enough to feel safe at night. Best of all was the incredible view of the ET from my hotel room. It made my first visit magical.

Hope this helps.

Hi Suzi, my mistake, I meant 4th, 5th, and 6th,

Have stayed in a hotel and an apt. in 7th and will be again in Aug.

It is very quiet at night as far as clubbing.etc. but has plenty of shops,markets. cafes and convenient metro lines.

Second choice would be 6th.

An Apt. would be cheaper ,roomier
