Marais vs. St. Germain for 4 day visit to Paris

Hi,

My partner and I will be visiting Paris on holiday at the end of May for 4 days (on our way from Lyon and Burgundy). This is each of our%26#39;s second visit to Paris (the last time either of us visited Paris was about 10 years ago).

We%26#39;re having a difficult time deciding between staying in the Marais neighborhood or the St. Germain area. I%26#39;ve read several posts on this board re this topic and many people seem to be equally passionate about both neighborhoods and it seems to boil down to a personal choice. Both areas seem nice and I doubt we%26#39;ll go wrong with either, but I was leaning towars the St. Germain area mostly because it seems more central and convenient to walk to most sites (especially since we%26#39;re only going to be in Paris for a few days). I was wondering if my reasoning is correct?

We already have reservations at the Pavillon de la Reine in Marais and we%26#39;re also holding reservations at Hotel Montalembert and Hotel d%26#39;Aubusson in the St. Germain area.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Peter.

You really can%26#39;t go wrong with either neighborhood, especially if both hotels are fairly close to a Metro stop. Just pick the one that will save you the most money.

Hi Peter!

Both areas are great and convenient in touring Paris on foot! But if it is me who has to choose between the two areas, i will surely pick Saint Germain. I%26#39;ve lived in this area when i was a new here and studying in Sorbonne and i still do go there and i find that it is so convenient to just to go Notre Dame and even to Louvre then Place de la Concorde, chaps Elyseées on foot from there. There are very good restaurants in this area and the latin quarter is very animated.

Have a great stay in Paris!

I just returned from Paris and stayed at Quartier Latin (close to St Germain). I also visited the Marais. Both areas are very nice. I would choose St Germain as the most convenient option though. Close to many sights. With marais you might need the metro more often.

Good luck!

I am another person who likes and recommends both areas and indeed have stayed in both.

From what you say, on this occasion, I think I would go with St Germain - although I think you would be fine in either.

Maybe let the hotel decide - be that on price or reviews. Personally I love the Pavillon de la Reine but I would go with Hotel d%26#39;Aubusson, of your two St Germain choices, as it has a garden.

I would definitely choose the Hotel d%26#39;Aubusson. The location seems ideal, and the reviews it gets are very favorable.

I vote for St.Germain area... but what Marlies said is true about the 5th too - a lovely area to be in :)

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

St. Germain it is for this trip to Paris (hopefully I%26#39;ll visit again and stay in Marais next time).

Thank you.

Peter.
