I don%26#39;t have extensive knowledge of the area, but the town is beautiful, and the cathedral is worth the stay in itself.

One thing that I learned on my stay is that unlike its surrounding cities, Bayeux maintains its pre-war architecture for the most part. That was a big draw for me.

As for the Churchill, I don%26#39;t have any firsthand knowledge, other than the location is perfect (central, and the WWII tour companies arrange their departures 75 yards from the hotel). Also, the ground it sits on -- alongside the lovely little creek/canal is very scenic.

Wish I could be of more help.

We stayed at the Churchill in June, 2006. The hotel is very centrally located for a visit to Bayeux and Normandy. The facility itself is very nice - the people who own and staff the hotel are even nicer.

They were very helpful in a number of ways. I would not hesitate to stay at the Churchill - I don%26#39;t think you will be dissappointed.

Book quick though, as you%26#39;ve already said, it seems hard to get bookings for early May. That%26#39;s because both the 1st and 8th are holidays in France and when they fall on a Thursday, as they do this year, many French people take the Friday off and make a long weekend of it and Bayeux is very popular with French tourists.
