Hi, going to be living paris in September for college...was wondering if living in the 17th is too far from the heart and sole of paris or would the metro/bus/train etc serve the area well enough? Think late nights, are taxis expensive etc
Also is the 17th dangerous? I%26#39;ve heard mixed reports

I think that a lot of students live in the outer arrondissements of Paris - don%26#39;t forget that the Cité Universitaire is at the southern edge of Paris. The 17th isn%26#39;t bad - the western part is even considered upscale, %26#39;chic%26#39;. It has been a long time since I stayed in that part of Paris, but I%26#39;ve never heard (or experienced) that it is dangerous.
With regard to public transport, you can check for yourself (www.ratp.fr) whether your address is close to a metro stop. It probably is - as a general rule, there%26#39;s a metro stop within 500 m of any location in central Paris.
Parisian taxis are relatively cheap. You can find rates and detailed information on www.taxi-paris.net/page19.html
