Travellers cheques vs. ATM card

I was planning to take Traveller%26#39;s Cheques in euros to Paris (Thomas Cook TCs)...but saw some really bad experiences people on fodors had.. overcharging/not accepting some TCs etc..

People please tell me.. how much do banks charge on converting TCs(euros) to cash? or is it better to take my ATM card along?

Need to decide and plan accordingly..

HELP!!!

Travellers cheques are old technology, and no-one likes accepting them.

Leave your money in your bank, use your card in the ATM and withdraw money that way. Check with your bank that the card will work - if it has a visa symbol on the back and a 4 number pin it should work in any Visa machine

Yes, absolutely - use ATMs over travellers cheques. If your card has the Cirrus or Maestro symbol on the back, you%26#39;ll be able to use it at most ATMs. Some banks have international agreements which mean that you won%26#39;t be whacked with an ATM fee if you use a certain bank (our bank in Australia does anyway), so it%26#39;s worth checking to see whether or not yours does the same thing. It saves quite a bit of money over the length of a trip!

Some comnpanies are offering cards as an alternative to travellers cheques - you put money on them and top them up when you need to. Haven%26#39;t used them, so I%26#39;m not 100% sure how they work, but they are probably worth investigating. We just used ATMs and it was fine.
