Is Paris safe?
I have heard that it is not safe place to visit due to crime in the city especially in the metros!after 6 Pm
If this is correct which are the districts we should avoid and what precautions we should take.

The person telling you this sure has never set a foot in Paris!

Depends on what part of Paris...it is my favorite city and I don%26#39;t often find fault with it..but tha being said, the tourist areas are as safe as any big city. The outer areas can be not as nice at times, but you have to use your head on your way to work just as much as on vacation. The average person should feel very safe on just about all of the metro they would use as a tourist, regardless of the hour, but of course at nite you always have to be more on guard as there are less people...

I am Sorry if i have offended you or your city but some incidents have happened in the past on the metro.
Where a group of 4 black persons surrounded a couple on a metro and demanded money from the tourists.
Further my friend was robbed of more than 1000Euros which was in his bag and snatched on the way to lido around 10pm.
I am slated to arrive in Paris in May i hope i enjoy each and every bit of this beautiful romantic city of yours.
Thanks

dear Euro Style,
Is Opera a safe place to stay and is it lively by night...
|||
Sure it%26#39;s safe. If you live in Delhi you will know how to handle yourself in a large busy city. if you are really worried, there are many threads here giving advice on how to avoid a misfortune.

I%26#39;m stunned that anyone would have 1000 euros in a bag in the first place. I would never have more than a days worth of money at risk. Other money should be in the hotel safe or in a money belt.
I have been to Paris several times and have never felt unsafe. That said, I am always aware of my surroundings and take normal precautions.

Thanks for the replies....
Your overall view abt opera district...
|||
There are some areas that you have to be more careful in like around Sacre Couer. There are a lot of pick pocketers around there. We are staying in the Opera area right now and it is very safe. I acidently left my bag with my camera in it in front of Starbucks and it was still there 15 minutes later when we ran back to get it.

Once again... the posts of %26quot;is it safe in blah, blah, blah%26quot; there are always stories about people robbed, pickpocketed etc. I made the mistake of comparing Paris to NYC, so I will not offend my New Yorker friends. Unlike NYC, Paris as well as many large metropolitan cities, there will always be good parts and not-so-good parts. Areas around Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre are very safe. It%26#39;s just best to not carry 1000 Euros on you and be alittle wiser as to your surroundings. We can not go through life with terror, especially on vacation!

I%26#39;ve traveled to Paris more than a dozen times without my husband. I have stayed in at least 8 different arrondissements. I have never had a problem, no matter what the hour, day or night, whether on foot, on the Metro, or on a bus, nor have I ever felt unsafe.
The only special measures I take in the name of safety are - I don%26#39;t flash cash or jewelry, and I don%26#39;t walk down dark alleys or streets. Beyond that, I do whatever the Parisians do. Since I%26#39;ve never tripped over large piles of dead Frenchmen in the city, I think that%26#39;s a safe way to go.
