Versailles

Was trying to buy the train/entrance tickets to Versailles ahead of time Has anyone done this? Should I do it on site? Does it eliminate the long lines or is there a better way? We are going in late June. Thanks

We bought ours from the conceirge at the hotel and it did save us a long wait in line and we were there in the %26quot;off%26quot; season. I would highly recommend this otherwise you stand in a long line to purchase tickets and then another line to go through security. It is very worthwhile going to see this amazing place.

I bought the combo tix at one of the booths on the RER C line (e.g. Musee DOrsay station). Good deal, includes audio tour, get to skip the big ticket buying line at Versailles.

Yes buy your ticket ahead of time.!!!! I just returned from Paris and visited Versailles on a Wed which is supposed to be a less crowded day. The line to buy the tickets took 1 hour and it was outside in the cold and rain. They only had 2 ticket booths open. Then you had another line to go through securtity. You can buy the tickets ahead of time at the RER station or the FNAC stores in Paris. The RER C station that I took did not have a ticket counter only a ticket machine.

You can buy Le Passeport at any RER station that services Versailes. It costs 19,40 Euro. However I do NOT suggest it.

The good thing about Le Passeport is that it is a twofer. If you but a Museum Pass, it covers the main palace, but none of the outhouses. This is OK because one of them (supposedly, the most spectacular one -- the queen%26#39;s residence) is closed for renovations.

Another thing that Le Passeport affords you is a free audio guide. However, I thought it was boring, dry, and uninformative. If you go to www.ricksteves.com or www.itunes.com you can download his podcast Versailles tour, which is free and much, much better.

If I were to do it again, I would just buy the train ticket and my museum pass for Versailles the first half of the day, return to Paris (with aching feet), and go to small, quick museums in the afternoon (that are also covered my the museum pass).

We arrive CDG early Wed.a.m.,and plan on heading straight to Versailles. Can we buy combo ticket at airport?

Buy the train/entrance pass at the RER station. To purchase in Versailles would require you wait on line. Having the pass allows you to avoid the very long ticket line at one entrance, but you will still need to line up for security as you enter.
