Normandy for 2 nights - Advice?

We%26#39;ll be headed to Normandy for 2 nights from Paris in late June. We obviously want to spend one day seeing the D-Day beaches and American Cemetery. I%26#39;d also love to see Mont-St-Michel, but not sure if this is realistic given our timing - we%26#39;ll be heading to Provence from Normandy when we%26#39;re done with our stay.

I think we%26#39;d like to stay somewhere on the coast that has a nice town to walk around ,etc. I%26#39;ve heard nice things about Honfleur.

My questions are:

1) Does it make more sense to drive or take a train from Paris?

2) Is it easy to get to the beaches from Honfleur w/o a car?

3) How far from Honfluer is Mont-St-Michel, and are there trains to it?

4) Is there another town we should consider staying in besides Honfleur?

Thank you!

1) - you could drive, but you may be better off taking the train to Caen, and then hiring a car there.

2)Honfleur is not very near to the D-Day beaches at all,(at least 1 hour drive from Honfleur to Ouistreham where the beaches %26#39;start%26#39;) if you want to visit them, even with a car, you would be better off staying at Caen or Bayeux. There aren%26#39;t any trains, and as far as I know, buses are not the easiest to deal with in France.

3)It is at least a 2 hour drive from Honfleur to Le Mont St Michel.

4) Bayeux or Caen as stated (Caen has good train links to Paris)

This website is good for driving routes and times:
