If you had to have ONE guide book.....what would it be?

I will be spending a week in VSM with my wife and 6 year old in March. We plan on one day trip to Cannes and another to Monaco. As well as renting a car to drive to Aix for one day.

I%26#39;ve begun looking for guide books. I%26#39;ll likely buy 2 or 3. But for those who have already...

any recommendations on a great guide book?

Thanks in advance

D%26amp;K Eyewitness Guide and Cadogan.

Be advised the parking situation in Aix is very poor.

The Lonely Planet Book - on France.I use them everywhere and now I have a huge library of lonely planet books. To me they are a huge source of information and are incredibily helpful. I never go anywhere without one.

Michelin Green Guides - I worship mine for Paris. If they made it anymore thorough, I wouldn%26#39;t be able to carry it in my bag.

Francophool is right - take the train to Aix instead. Aix is pedestrain territory - bring good walking shoes :)

A train from VSM to Aix is not practical.

Lonely Planet guide to Provence and the Cote d%26#39;Azur. I%26#39;ve had half a dozen different ones at different times and this is by far the best. If you are driving about you will need an up to date road map too, but buy those in France as they%26#39;re much cheaper there.

As a travel guidebook author myself, I%26#39;m a fan of the Eyewitness Travel Guides (by DK Publishing) for their coverage, their clear design and their illustrations.

Make sure that the edition you get is recent as main local attractions may not change much, but restaurants and hotels do.

Ours guidebooks to hiking the Cote d%26#39;Azur are geared at nature-lovers. If you%26#39;re interested in taking short hikes to discover gorgeous panoramas, check us on our web site below or on your local Amazon.com online store.

Enjoy looking through the guidebooks. It%26#39;s almost as much fun as traveling!

I used the Provence Rough Guide, Time Out Provence and Cote d%26#39;Azur, Rick Steve%26#39;s Provence and Cadogan Cote d%26#39;Azur. I%26#39;m a Rough Guide fan.

I LOVE Rick Steve%26#39;s guidebooks. I buy others for the pictures and his for the information.

Hi --

Two or three books are necessary - no one book does it all. That being said, I don%26#39;t carry any book with me, they are all too heavy. I carry only the pages relevant to my itinerary, and throw them away as they become obsolete.

Bon voyage.

I haven%26#39;t been yet - still in planning stages - but I%26#39;ve found Lonely Planet%26#39;s %26quot;Provence %26amp; the Cote d%26#39;Azur%26quot; guidebook to be the best out of the 5 or so books I%26#39;ve purchased. It%26#39;s loaded with info not found in the more traditional Frommers or Fodors type book.
