Le Meridien Etoile vs. Westin Paris vs. Prince de Galle

My fiance and I are in our mid-twenties and looking to go to Paris for our honeymoon. We are going to use my father%26#39;s Starwood points and narrowed our search for a centrally located hotel to Etoile, Westin and Prince de Galle.

We are not picky, but all three of these hotels got VERY mixed reviews.

Has anyone had any experience with any of these hotels? Rants/Raves?

Thank you!!!

Just bumping a bit...any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Jessica,

Without knowing anything about these hotels, I would choose the Westin just because of its location across from the Tuileries gardens. You will be much closer to the Seine for those romantic evening strolls along the river. I think that is a required activity for honeymooners.

The 8th and the 17th are not good locations for a couple in their 20%26#39;s. In the 1st, you will be right in the center of Paris.

How exciting for you to be planning a honeymoon in Paris!

I had to pick between these exact 3 hotels for my trip later in April because, like your father, I am a Starwood member and will be using points.

I researched the 3 hotels and ended up picking the Le Meridien Etoile it requires less points per night (12,000 for Le Meridien, 20,000 for Westin and 30,000 for Prince). Depending on the number of nights that you%26#39;ll be in Paris, the points you need could quickly add up.

Granted that the other 2 properties is closer to the tourist area, but the Paris public transportation system seems very convenient and Le Meridien isn%26#39;t all that out of the way anyway.

I am a Platinum Starwood member, and I%26#39;ve stayed at all 3.

The best quality hotel in terms of the physical plant is the Prince, hands down, no contest, it is luxury....and its location is pretty good, just off the Champs Elysee (which contrary to neophyte visitors%26#39; expectations, is not exactly %26#39;central%26#39; to the biggest tourist attractions)

The best location is the Westin Paris, hands down no contest...but it is a very tired physical property, and the renovations are taking forever. If you get an unrenovated room, you will NOT be impressed at all. I also found the management and staff to be very hit-or-miss, either very helpful, or completely disdainful of guests. Read my review from my stay there two years ago (I wish I could say my review is no longer accurate, but the same complaints I made are still turning up from more recent visitors)

The best value for visitors who value practicality is the Meridien Etoile, hands down, no contest. Read my review from my stay there last month.

You don%26#39;t say exactly what you seek in a hotel in Paris, so it is difficult to give you a definitive answer about which hotel you should choose.

Ultimately, you%26#39;re getting a %26quot;freebie%26quot; from dad, and you say you aren%26#39;t %26quot;picky%26quot;, so I%26#39;d guess that each of them will be %26#39;good enough%26#39; despite the mixed reviews.

I re-read your original post.

You say this is your honeymoon. To me, that says you should choose the luxury option, because you%26#39;ll be spending plenty of time in your hotel room.

If that%26#39;s the case, choose the Prince de Galle.

Both the Meridien and Westin are undergoing renovations, the Meridien is deinitely NOT a romantic hotel, it%26#39;s very practical.

The Westin has that wonderful, exquisite location, but if you don%26#39;t get a renovated room, you%26#39;ll feel like you%26#39;re staying in a run-down 2-star hotel, complete with peeling wallpaper, stained furniture, lumpy old mattresses. I%26#39;m not kidding, that was my experience, and judging from the reviews that continue to come in, it might be yours, too. Is that what you are prepared to endure on your honeymoon? If so, book it, because the location is incredible.

I%26#39;ve stayed in the Prince de Galles and the Meridien Etoile in the past, and will be spending five nights at the Prince de Galles for MY honeymoon in June!

I was not _ecstatic_ about the Prince de Galles, but thought it was a very nice property with excellent service. I%26#39;m excited to spend part of my honeymoon there (which says something, I guess). Although the location isn%26#39;t fantastic for sightseeing, it%26#39;s a 10-minute métro ride from the Westin, and the potential risk of an unrenovated room in the Westin is hardly an even exchange for saving a few minutes... I also like the neighborhood (walking from Prince de Galles AWAY from the Champs Elysées).

The Meridien is more business-oriented, kind of sterile and definitely not %26quot;romantic%26quot;, and much less convenient to the métro than the Prince de Galles. Had a good time at the Lionel Hampton jazz club there, though, and may go back in June for a show.

I say go for the Prince de Galles.

The Westin is renovating all of its rooms. It has about half of them done. If you go there, be sure to get one of the newer rooms, they are A LOT NICER than the old ones. Beautiful hotel, great service, outstanding location. But bring a lot of money because everything in the hotel is expensive.
