Sorry for these age-old questions, but deciphering through all of the hotel options for a Paris first-timer is definitely overwhelming. I have the following options for our dates coming up in May. We don%26#39;t need luxury (can%26#39;t afford it anyway) but we do need a safe place (to walk around, but also to leave our things like laptop in the hotel room and feel like they are safe in the hotel), clean, amenities around and not too crazy with noise on the streets from party-goers. Would absolutely LOVE any opinions you have on these options:
Les Degres de Notre Dame (Rm. 11 - small - 115E)
Hotel de Saint Germain (130E)
Hotel de la Sorbonne (classic room, about 101E if you choose the booking with full payment up front, more if you choose to lose one night if you cancel - would it be worth is to spend for the superior rm?)
Hotel Eugenie (110E)
Hotel Clement (130E)
Hotel Jeanne D%26#39;Arc (89E)
And, yes, I should be jumping at the chance that Jeanne D%26#39;Arc has one room left for our dates, according to all that is said about the hotel out on the site. To be honest, I initially wanted to be in the Marais and the area looks ideal, but I got a little concerned about a review that discussed the %26quot;safety%26quot; inside the hotel - leave key at front desk, sometimes unstaffed, anyone could grab your key. I realize this sounds like an uneducated American here and that many European hotels operate this way (we have stayed at them before and loved them), but I%26#39;m just putting it out there as a question that was in my head upon reading the review.
Thanks again for any thoughts - I am so grateful for this forum!

have u you looked through the reviews for each hotel?

Yes - thanks for mentioning! I have practically memorized the reviews by now. Some mixed, some overwhelmingly positive - I%26#39;m not searching for perfection (I promise), but just looking for some other thoughts from the experts. Thanks!

This is April. You want a hotel for May, only a few weeks from now. You gotta book one asap. Toss out the ones with %26#39;mixed%26#39; reviews. How many does that leave? Choose the one with the best room, most amenities. They will all be central enough. Ask for rooms away from the street, if noise bothers, or pack some soft earplugs just in case. Buy a security cable lock for the laptop for $15 at Walmart, or $25 from some online site. Most hotels hang the key somewhere, and most are quite familiar with who is staying in the hotel. They will often match the key/room# to the face. There is little to fear, probably more likely the cleaning lady will open all the room doors while she cleans. You have to go with the flow (to a degree).
Now, go enjoy Paris!

Go for the Jeanne D%26#39;Arc and follow Travelnutty%26#39;s advice! The $/euro exchange rate is not in your favour and you will be in a great area.
It%26#39;s easy to get so caught up in this kind of decsion that you just confuse yourself entirely. Book that great deal and get on with the fun part of planning your trip :o)

Thanks to you both for getting me better focused! That%26#39;s a great idea about the cable lock. Thanks for all the sensible advice! Can%26#39;t wait for our trip which could not have happened without all the help from this forum!

I second the Jeanne D%26#39;Arc. We stayed there a few years ago and it was great. No safety concerns. Grab that last room!!!!
