Hi all!
We will be in Paris in a week with a group of eleven, 5 adults, 6 kids ages 11-16, boys younger girls older. We%26#39;re staying in the 1st arrondisement and were wondering:
1.family restuarants that have decent food but won%26#39;t break the bank?
2. do most restaurants serve some basic foods(hamburger, chicken fingers) as restaurants in the states do?
3. how does the whole wine at dinner thing work with older teens? Im not sure what the drinking age is in France.
4. What are the less expensive trendy teen clothes shops? we hear all about the couture but dont really want to spend that kind of money

Question 2 : well, basic food here is not chicken fingers, you will just get this at the canteen, and maybe in some children menu (alhough in chidren menus , usually for under 12, they usually get ham and fries and something like mousse au chocolat). You may find hamburgers, but this is due to tourists, so it is not something that will look or taste like the ones you know.
3 Drinking age is 16. There should be no problem if adults take wine at the table.
4 : teens should love Pimkie, Etam on rue de Rivoli (many other locations around Paris). For girls only.

Hello,
For the restaurants you can try : Chez Leon (http://www.leon-de-bruxelles.fr/ )
Hippopotamus ( that french calls Hippo http://www.hippopotamus.fr/accueil/ )
Hippo is better, but if you like mussels, go to Leon de Bruxelles.
Bistro Romain too is affordable, all those restaurants has french food, but also asian for Hippo and hamburger... My parisian advise will be Hippo for kids! Leon de Bruxelles is more...mature!
You won%26quot;t find american food in every restaurants. But many Macdonalds, try its competitor in France, Quick !
Drinking age is 18 in France, but if you want your teens drink a little bit wine with you nobody will call the police or pay attention. If they are with you. If they are alone and look older than 18 yes, if not... nobody will serve them.
HetM, CetA are the most affordable in Pari I think.
Voilaaa !

IMO, it%26#39;s not a bad idea to introduce kids to real French food. When I was 12 years old, I visited Asia and even though I was not mature, I did enjoy the authentic food. Kids at age have the ability to enjoy good adult food. It would be a good education for them to learn about better food if possible in your challenge. Good luck!

Don%26#39;t forget to stop by a pastry shop and buy a round of pain au chocolats for the kids. Miam.

thanks so much. im hoping the kids will enjoy french food but im not so sure that escargot is up their alley.
Also do you think it%26#39;s safe to let teenage girls go to a cafe down the street by themselves?

try Hippo and Chez Clement- they have basic, affordable meals and children%26#39;s menus.
