Eating in Marseille

Looking for good, reasonably priced places to eat in Marseille. Do many restaurants have a prix-fixe menu?

Also cafes with great coffee needed! Thanks

Virtually all restaurants throughout France offer a prix-fixe menu. It is usually either posted outside on a chalkboard or in the front window. The %26quot;Menu%26quot; is always the way to go since it is not only the best value but is always representative of what is in season - generally offering 3 courses, sometimes with the possibility of a cheese course for an additional couple of Euros.

Here are some of our favorite places in or near the Old Port in Marseilles:

Chez FonFon - walk along the seafront and take the 1st staircase after the Monument aux Morts d%26#39;Orient

Brasserie New York - Quai des Belges (Bouillabaise)

Les Arsenaux - 25 Cours Estienne d%26#39;Orves ( a really nifty bookstore / cafe on the other side of the Old Port. Good selection of books en Englais aussi

Miramar - 12 Quai du Port, not cheap but both the food and the experience make it worth doing at least once each September when we%26#39;re en Provence (only 167 days to go...)

Hope this was helpful.

Many restaurants will have a choice of fixed price menus.

I particularly enjoyed eating in Le Quinze on rue des Trois-Rois and Au Lamparo on Place de Lenche. They are both small restaurants that serve excellent food at very reasonable prices.

If you enjoy seafood then a visit to Toinou Dégustation on Cours Saint-Louis is a must.

Bon appetit!
