We are driving from france to switzerland and plan to go thru chamonix/mt blanc in the first week of may on the way to montreux.
We are looking for a b%26amp;b around the region for one or two nights.... want to soak in the view/immensity of Mt Blanc.
Should we stay in chamonix itself or somewhere nearby?
Is there skiing still at that time of the year? Should we extend our stay?

First week of May...the Grand Montets in Argentiere closes 11th May so you should be able to ski.
Where to stay? ... a lot of the smaller resorts will already be closed by May so probably best to head for Chamonix valley. There aren%26#39;t that many B%26amp;Bs around but plenty of small hotels.

If you want to soak in the view of Mt. Blanc stay at Les Balcons du Savoy. The rooms all face the mountain and it%26#39;s positively gorgeous. It%26#39;s not a B%26amp;B though - it%26#39;s an apartment which is really nice. We passed all the hotels in town many times because we walked everywhere and I kept saying that our view was 10 times better than most. Nothing like going to bed looking at all that beauty through the window and waking up to it again!

If you ski on Les Grands Montets stay in Argentiere. Most of the hotels will be open.
Try Le Dahu it has a web site.
