My family had vacation one week at time sharing resort at Antibes, Riviera. The last 2 days we planned to see Paris. So we used the SNCF (French rail) to Lyon and booked the hotel named HoteldeParis in Dijon. Because the next morning we could catch TGV at 11am from Dijon to Paris easier.
But we were unlucky because on that day all the trains to Lyon were retarded and could not tell when will come.The crowd were more and more at Lyon train station and everyone will run to the next train that coming. Guess how can my family catch a seat on the train.Even a place to stand,no way.
So we missed 3 trains and it was the train that could not reserved. You just go and find the seat yourself.
So even you wait for 3 hours if you are not a rugby player,impossible to find a seat.
We called to the hotel explained about this condition and asked for advice. But the staff only said I could not wait. Even I asked her that the train said that will arrive at 23.45 in Dijon, can she wait for us if we catch that train? She still said that she won%26#39;t wait beyond midnight(check in time) even we may late because of the French government train. That means if that train late and we arrived late, we won%26#39;t have a hotel to sleep.
What a service!!!!
Unbelievable this hotel charged me by my HSBC credit card for cancelation!!!

I would like to say that I am sorry that you lost your money that night. However, that is a normal policy. The hotel reserved the room for you for that night. In USA, 18:00 o%26#39;clock is the deadline, if they don%26#39;t hear from you. I don%26#39;t think that the hotel is responsible for the delay/problems of SNCF. BTW, were you able to catch the train to Paris the next day?

I agree with ggg. How did you want the hotel to re book your room after midnight?
It is the same for every hotel, but it is a shame they didn%26#39;t have a code to give you access to your room.
Next time (and in any town) ask reception about their late arrival policy and if they have a night receptionnist.

They heard from me for sure.Because I called the hotel since 7pm to tell about the messy train. And asked for any suggestion. But the reception only said that she could not wait even that was not normal situation ( or it is normal for the train strike in France?)
I think the hotel should have more service mind, not like this.
How the foreigners will know that the trains delay is normal situation in France?
Then we should rent a car better than travel by train.
If I did not called her I would not blame the hotel.
But I contacted her already.
And the response was only no. no. no.
This is not normal for hotels in Thailand.
I understand about their reservation and we tried to go there too.Until she did not make sure for us that if we arrived by that train we will have the room.
Please understand me, thank you.
And from now I think to book by internet is not safe.
Especially if you cannot control your trip.
