Hi,
I%26#39;m currently struggling with the SNCF website. There is still more than 3 months until the date of travel so I have a bit of time to sort out how to book tickets (Morgan B%26#39;s instructions no longer work with website changes ...).
However, this is a general question unrelated to the challenges of making the booking.
I understand that return fares are cheaper than one-way. We are wanting to travel from Paris to Avignon and then a week later from Avignon to Rennes. Since the TGV hubs back through Paris on the way to Rennes, then one option is to book Paris to Avignon return, and then book the Paris to Rennes extension seperately.
Are there any fish-hooks in this approach? Am I better to book two one way trips?
Any advice will be much appreciated.

return fares on TGV are the same price as two singles. They may even be more expensive because you may not be able to take advantage of cheap fares booking a return ticket.
You will have to check all options to find out which approach is cheapest.
