we have a rental and our ultimate destination is villefranche sur mer By taxi probably but would like to know since we are drinving in from the west will it be easier to drop off car at train station or airport?? thanks I am assuming it is the train station in downtown nice? any help would be great. thanks

Absolutely the airport. Yes, the train station is downtown.

they also have a drop off at the promenade des anglais is that more convient than either?? coming from west. ( brignoles) thanks

Train station requires you to drive into one of Nice%26#39;s very cramped car parks. The Meridien drop off is by far the simplest, has a taxi rank immediately across the road and you will save 30 euros on the taxi fare in comparison to airport drop off.

Does your car rental company have a drop off facility in Beaulieu sur Mer which is right next to Villefranche? Most of the bigger ones do
That would be more convenient for Villefranche than Nice and much less hassle than trying to drop off at the multi storey car park next to Nice train station or on the busy Promenade des Anglais.
If you%26#39;re stuck with Nice,the airport drop off is the easiest of the three Nice options in my opinion if you%26#39;re coming in on the A8 from the west,but also the most expensive taxi-wise to Villefranche.
There is a train from the airport (Nice St Augustin) to Villefranche and a bus service from the airport T1 which drops off at the Nice St Augustin Rail station if you have lots of bags (or its a 10 minute walk). The free airport shuttle takes you from T2 where the rental drop offs are to T1.

LONDON BOB where is the meridian? and is that a hotel%26gt;

On behalf of London Bob, The Meridien is an hotel on a busy corner on Promenade des Anglais. It%26#39;s a landmark for where many of the car rental agencies are based. From the west end of the Prom,you will have to negotiate 6 lanes of fast moving traffic to get to it and it%26#39;s awful trying to look out for turnings when you don%26#39;t know where you are going.
Have you checked out dropping off in Beaulieu which is slightly east of Villefranche instead? It%26#39;s much closer to Villefranche than Nice is.
It will also be much less frantic than trying to drop off your car anywhere in Nice and you could catch the train from Beaulieu to Villefranche or take a short taxi. You could even drop all your bags at your destination in Villefranche before dropping the car and walk.

Trust me, finding Le Meridien is not difficult coming from the west. It%26#39;s the concrete monstrosity of a hotel on the Promenade des Anglais. It and the Casino Reuhl have large, tacky neon signs that you cannot miss. Just take a left when you get to them!!!!
It%26#39;s nowhere near the train station but the bus station is not far away so you can hop on a 100 bus to Villefranche.

I agree that drop off would be most sensible in Beaulieu but I am not aware that it is possible. I much prefer the Meridien hotel drop off compared to the airport. As far as crossing the traffic is concerned, you just need to wait for the green light. Apart from being easier to find, it is much quicker. You just walk into the office, a member of staff will come out immediately, check the car and take it away. There are often queues for drop off at the airport. A thirty minute wait is not unknown. It is not at all like dropping off in the US.
I strongly advise against trying to save a few euros by getting the bus to Villefranche, as there is no room for luggage and buses often have 20 or more people standing. Once you have disposed of luggage the bus is a good way to travel.
