One free week from Toulouse - toward Barcelona or Nice?

I%26#39;ll be joining my husband in Toulouse at the end of his business trip, and have one week on holiday. Can%26#39;t decide whether to head for Barcelona or Nice! We were planning on Barcelona, but encountered the excessive charges for car return in Spain, so now considering Nice instead.

Is the drive or destination more enjoyable one way or the other? We will be traveling the end of April, I presume weather will improve either way out of the Pyrenees toward the Mediterranean, but do they have an appreciably different springtime climate? Is one city more expensive than another?

I realize this is comparing apples to oranges, but we don%26#39;t know alot about either one, just that they are within driving distance of Toulouse. We enjoy walking city tours, markets, great food and sunshine! Any advice is appreciated!

It is quite a long drive to Nice, although you will be on a paying motorway. It would be almost impossible to find out the weather in advance, so you might have both sun or heavy rain.That%26#39;s April for you in the south of France.I must admit that the weather either in Barcelona or Nice will be very similar ( they both have very mediterranean climates) so the weather should not be your main criteria for choosing. Nice has lots of little very pretty towns to visit around the town ( it%26#39;s a nightmare to drive thru Nice, be warned, especially as they have a lot of work going on in the streets!) so perharps staying outside of Nice ( just 10mns drive) can make a big big difference! You can still enjoy visiting Nice and parking your car in a parking near the port.I know a FABULOUS very well catered B%26amp;B with only one room and where the delightul owner cooks her own croissants!the rate is very cheap and the place is just stunning. An oasis of tranquility from the traffic of Nice.Let me know if you%26#39;re interested to find out.Otherwise Barcelona is also best seen by foot, so I would recommend you find a private closed parking/garage and get rid of your car while you visit.It%26#39;s always very busy and has a vibrant atmosphere with very late nights, constant traffic and hotels can be a bit noisy- but that%26#39;s part of the charm.ARchitecture and food are fabulous and it is a great city to just walk around. But just as much, Nice is lovely to walk around too - especially the old town. The beach in nice is stunning ( the colour of the water) but is made of pebbles.the Beach in Barcelona is nice too but not as stunning at the Nice one.I hope this helps!
