Hi, I%26#39;m new to all of this...I%26#39;ll be in Paris at the end of May for four days.I%26#39;m traveling on my own, and am looking to stay in an hotel near Gare de Lyon. Cost is a factor due to the exchange rate for the Aussie dollar. Trying to stay around 100 euro. I%26#39;ve done comparisons and read reviews and I%26#39;m confused. Suggestions/experiences appreciated.

Hi redtorrie, welcome to TA.
When you say you have read reviews and you%26#39;re confused, is this because you don%26#39;t know where to search in Paris?
I%26#39;d recommend you go to Hotels and Accommodations and put %26quot;Bastille%26quot; in the neigbourhood drop down. Then look for hotels with availability on your dates and in your price range.
Read the reviews of the hotels that have the highest TripAdvisor Popularity Index (lowest numbers) to see if there is anything that might put you off (noise ... etc.). You won%26#39;t have a great deal of choice at 100 Euro, so there shouldn%26#39;t be too many options.
Once you have a short list, and you still can%26#39;t decide, ask again about some specific hotels, but lots will have up-to-date reviews already, which should give you a more balanced view than a single response on this forum.
If in doubt, go for one of the budget chain hotels - at least you can make a fuss if things are not up to standard and hope to have it put right.

We have been recommended the Terminus Lyon by friends who stayed there last year. It is directly opposite the Gare De Lyon and is a smallish (60 rooms) family run hotel. The rooms are average sized by Paris standards and very clean. It is around your budget with breakfast included. It has good reviews on TA. We will be staying there in July.

The first review states that the beds were uncomfortable, however don%26#39;t let it put you off, as a number of other posters plus our friends beg to differ.

BTW don%26#39;t worry that the rates on their website are slightly higher than you would like, once you put in your dates they almost always have one promotion or other that will bring the price down.

I was also going to suggest Helking%26#39;s recommendation and the Hotel Plessis, which has a couple of single rooms left for late May at under 75Euros. That also has good reviews on TA and is nearer to the Bastille. Not stayed at either myself, but found them recommended in some recent guide books I have.
It wouldn%26#39;t leave it too long to book as hotels now start to fill up. Don%26#39;t worry too much about the location, as Public transport in Paris is good and cheap.
