My newly-wed husband and I are visiting Paris for the first time and he is an avid cognac fan...I haven%26#39;t mentioned this to him because I%26#39;m not sure it%26#39;s a realistic goal...Can we get away with taking a day trip to the Hennesy Plant in Cognac from Paris? If so, does anyone have specific suggestions as to how I can surprise him with this???

Unrealistic--a 3.5 hour train ride and an early start.

The tour of the Hennesy facility is really quite interesting and I known your husband would really enjoy it.
Consider taking the 2-3 hour TGV ride to Angouleme, then taxi to Cognac. Contact the Office de Tourisme for details on transportation options from the train station at Angouleme to Cognac.

The idea is not really a practical one for travel from Paris but if accomplished, it is something you could talk about for years to come.

I%26#39;ve read that it%26#39;s quite interesting for the cognac-lover....and we%26#39;re young (27 and 30) and very ambitious in getting the most out of our travels and fitting in as much as possible...so while it seems like it will be a bit of a haul I%26#39;d like to try pulling it off.
Do you have any further references? I%26#39;ve been searching online and haven%26#39;t been able to get thru via phone to the Hennessy is that the only way to schedule tours?
Any opinion on the Vueve Cliquot or Moet tours in Reims?

I do not think there is any need to reserve for the Hennesy tour but given your situation, an advance call could be important to confirm availability. I suggest a taxi from Angouleme in the interest of time. You can also connect to the Cognac station. You may want to send an email to the Tourist Office in Angouleme and perhaps Cognac asking for assistance in executing your plan (writing in English is OK).
I have done the Moet tour as well and found it as interesting and informative as the Hennesy tour.

I%26#39;m not sure whether you are there now, or will be going in the future. Do be sure to contact Hennesy in advance. We were in Cognac last May and drove by the Hennesy facility but didn%26#39;t even try to stop because it was mobbed with tour buses. Even though it would be a pain to get there early (due to the need to travel) I would suggest the earliest arrival you can manage.
Cognac is a very old and interesting small city, with much of the medieval (I think!) center still visible. It%26#39;s about 30 minutes from Angouleme. If you prefer a rental car to a taxi, they are right at the train station (all the major US chains are there, as well as European ones - but be aware that they close up completely for lunch.) We went to the Martel facility, and enjoyed it.

We are going next week...April 6-12th Any idea how much this taxi might cost? Trying to determine if we should continue by train or taxi...
|||
I am guessing that train service between Angouleme and Cognac may exist but likely very few trains per day either direction. A cab would be much better in terms of controlling your schedule.
|||
Only six minutes to make the train connection. Better opt for the taxi.
