We are trying to decide where to go for our late summer (September is still summer for us in SoCal) vacation. I%26#39;m leaning towards Venice and Paris. DH is thinking Greece (Athens and Mykonos). We only have 8-10 days to play with. Any suggestions from you well-worn travelers? What destination would you combine with Paris?

I looked at your travel map, looks like you%26#39;ve been to Paris before. Have you been to Nice or anywhere in the South of France? Great time of year to go.
Quick flight and less expensive than flying to Venice. Lots to see and do in Nice. You can have a drink at one of the beach bars and get lost in the beautiful blue of the Mediterranean. Cool %26#39;Old town%26#39; area. Getting from airport to Nice city center is easy.

You should probably factor in the transfer connections and travel time between Paris and the Greek island of your choice...as a portion of any proposed itinerary. The Grrek isdlands might be better left as a stand-alone...or perhaps a Greece/Turkey...Venice/Greece itinerary.

You may want to consider a cruise and see lots of ports, no packing and unpacking, transfers to worry about and save on food bill.

I adore Paris, and I loved Mykonos.. but they are two different holidays.
Athens is a dump ( sorry I will be blunt as I have been drinking,, LOL ) dirty big city, could be anywhere they douse food with olive oil,, the best site is the Acropolis and thats 1/2 day max. There are of course much better mainline cities to visit, but , if we are just talking Athens ,, forget it, fly into Athens and get the h*ll out to the islands.
I would do 5 days Mykonos and 4 in Santorini,, one day for Athens.
September is an excellant month for the islands, especially later in months , crowds go down, and its still warm and lovely .Check out Hotel Tagoo on Mykonos I haven%26#39;t stayed there yet myself but it looks great.
Paris is worth the whole ten days,, ok, fine take a day or two if you must and visit London,, but then keep in mind this is a museum , churches, good food and wine vacation, not a beach and nightclub vacation like Greece.

I%26#39;d go for Paris and Venice or Florence. There are low cost intra European carriers between these cities. September in Paris --- beautiful!!!
