Carte Orange advice needed pretty please! (re-using photo)

Hi everyone,

I%26#39;m just bumping this up on a new topic hoping to solicit some much needed advice, I didn%26#39;t have much luck searching through old topics.

When I was in Paris last year I heard that they were possibly %26quot;phasing out%26quot; the Carte Orange for tourists (actually I had one ticket seller refuse to sell me one when I said I was a tourist, but then went to another one and asked again in French and did not say I was a tourist and received my Carte Orange).

Does anyone know if they are still available?

I will be in Paris for about a week, Friday evening until Friday morning.

I understand that I can buy a Carte Orange starting on Friday for the following week (starting use on Monday), is this correct? So I would still need to buy individual tickets for Fri, Sat, Sun, is this correct?

Also, I still have my old %26quot;photo-id%26quot; section of the Carte Orange from last year - so when I go to buy a new one can I just ask for a new %26quot;coupon hebdomadaire for zone 1-2 for 16.30 Euros%26quot; that goes with the photo-id and then re-use the 2007 photo-id with the new coupon?

Thanks in advance for your help! Please let me know if I%26#39;m understanding correctly and if/where I%26#39;ve gone wrong.

I think you can find the answers here www.transport-idf.com/frontal…

Carte orange is still available, and yes you can use your old photo-id section and buy only the coupon.

You%26#39;ll have to write down the id-number from the photo-id section on your coupon (i guess you know that already).

Coupon for carte orange starts on mondays to sundays.

So you%26#39;ll have to buy individual tickets for friday to sunday. Maybe a Paris Visite coupon (19 euros / 3 days and 3 zones).

Remember also that zones 1-2 are paris intra-muros stations for RER and all the stations of the metro lines.

|||

Great! Thanks to you both.

Re %26quot;intra-muros%26quot; what do you mean? That I can use the Carte Orange on the RER and the Metro?

|||

%26quot;Re %26quot;intra-muros%26quot; what do you mean? That I can use the Carte Orange on the RER and the Metro?%26quot;

I was meaning that the zones refer mostly to RER ( see http://www.ratp.info/orienter/cv/carterer.php ), and not the metro.

For instance with your coupon for zone 1 and 2, you%26#39;ll be able to go to %26quot;La defense%26quot; with the metro line 1, but won%26#39;t be able to take RER A, because this station is in zone 3.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; I can use the Carte Orange on the RER and the Metro?%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

You can use your CARTE ORANGE transportation pass for ALL modalities of public transportation within the limits of the Transportation Zones it is valid for (Zones 1-2 thru Zones 1-6)...this includes RER, regular Metro, Buses, Trams, Funicular, Noctilien night buses.

A Zone 1-2 CO would cover ALL public transportation within the City of Paris (and in a few exceptional instances, a bit beyond) ORLY and VERSAILLES are located out in Zone 4; CDG and DLP out in Zone 5.

I was asking a similar question the other day,

I%26#39;m sorry I%26#39;m a little confused. Probably because from researching the Carte Orange online I thought that it had been replaced by something else.

I will be in Paris from a Monday-Friday(leaving on Saturday. Is the Carte Orange a good idea for me?

I might take the RER from CDG to my hotel(I might possibly take the bus)

Thanks,

|||

Hope you can help because I am confused. I thought that the carte organge was no longer available? We are heading to Paris the end of April a Mon-Sat and my husband and I were going to purchase one but I thought there was a thread a little while back saying that you can no longer get them...the new type costs 5 euro extra. Is this not the case?

Also what size of photo do you need and should it be in colour or black and white. Finally, our French is not very good, so how would we ask for 2 Carte Orange Passes for Zones 1 %26amp; 2? Would it be considered rude if we wrote it down in French and passed it to the ticket agent instead of verbally asking?

Thanks for your help

The Carte Orange is a pass. It can be a paper ticket (old version) or loaded to the electronic card (new version). It isn%26#39;t going away - just the paper ticket version, eventually. Whether you still get the paper version or the electr. card version, you will also get an id card that needs the little photo, 1x1 inch will do. You can do it yourself with a digital camera and print on regular piece of paper, or cut out an old photo....

The electronic card version goes on a %26quot;Navigo Decouverte%26quot; (not just %26quot;Navigo%26quot;, which is different).

You can certainly write down what you want, and just be sure to say, %26#39;monsieur (or madame), s%26#39;il vous plait?%26quot; and slide it over to them.

Thanks for the description.

YES...it%26#39;s still a good deal for your proposed itinerary...even with the 5€ one-time fee for the re-useable/re-loadable DÉCOUVERTE device (which has a certain tangilbe and intangible %26#39;value%26#39; as a personalized Paris %26#39;souvenir%26#39;) You must supply a small (1%26quot; x 1 1/4%26quot;) %26#39;head-shot%26#39; ID-photo.

The %26#39;..catch..%26#39; for your proposed itinerary comes when you make the decision to use either the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne or ROISSYBUS transfer methods. CDG is located out in Transportation Zone...so in order to use a CARTE ORANGE pass for either RER %26#39;B%26#39;ligne train (separate one-way fare: 8,20€) or ROISSYBUS (separate one-way fare: 8,60€), you must purchase a CO valid for Zones 1-5 at ticket booths at the RER stations located within CDG. If your plan is to use the ROISSYBUS transfer, this will be inconvenient and time consuming. If your do the math---16,30 CO Zone 1-2 vs. 32,10€ CO Zone 1-5, you would have to use either RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne or ROISSY bus both from and back to CDG to break even. If you use either mode of transfer, purchase separate one-way tickets.
