An adapter should really not care what it is used for.

Are you sure you purchased an European plug adapter?

Does it look like this:

no, it doesn%26#39;t look like yours. yours is just a plug adapter, we bought a voltage converter kit. should we return it?

Check the transformer (the little black box that fits between the wall outlet and your electronic device). Most will operate on both 120 volt alternating current (US standard), and 220 volt direct current (EU standard). If so, all you need is a simple plug adapter to convert your US 2-blade power cord so it will fit the 2 round-pin outlet (assuming you are going to France).

I have never had a problem just unsing a simple plug adapter to adapt my US electronc charging devices (camera, phone, GPS unit, etc.). But do check the fine print on your transformers.

%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;should we return it?%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

Yes

But just to confirm, look on the transformers of both your laptop and camera. They should clearly indicate %26quot;AC 100-240V%26quot;.

It would be a rather rare case if they accepted voltages limited to 120V only. If you find such a transformer, I recommend your replacing the laptop or camera transformer with one which will accept 240VAC and then purchasing the necessary plug adapters.
