My Wife, baby (1yr) and I are going mid Sep08 for 4/5 days. We live near St Pancras so are considering the train (6.5 - 7 hrs) over the plane (?hrs).
Where do we win/lose?
Cheers

Plane can be a bit cheaper, but you need to add the cost of transfers to the airport. Has your baby flown before? Loads depends on whether on not baby likes it, or gets sore ears.
I would always choose the train, though. It%26#39;s more comfortable, you can get up and walk about and the train to Marseille delivers you right to the main station. It does take longer, but not much longer if as in your case you have to get to the airport (about 45 minutes?) 1-2 hours in advance(?), do the flight (about 2 hours), pick up luggage (variable) get the shuttle to Marseille (25 minute journey, they run every 20 minutes).

Unfortunately, the train will be about twice the price.

One answer to where you lose is that mid Sept is too late for the high season direct Eurostar Saturday service to Avignon, out at 07.19, return at 16.24. Friends used this last year for £99 return. If your final destination is Marseille, the onward local fare will be trivial.
Can%26#39;t you travel a couple of weeks earlier?!
