Would like to find a nice moderate hotel in a safe area - Have not stayed in either Marais or the Latin Quarter - would you recommend these areas? And if so, any great hotels around $200 range? Really looking for a central area - love to walk! Greatly appreciate your advice!

Hotel des Grandes Ecoles is really quite charming though lots of chintz. The garden is great esp in the warm months.

I definitely prefer the Marais - more of a %26quot;living%26quot; area and less of a tourist/student area. Of course there are lovely parts of the Latin Quarter too, but the Marais is my favorite part of Paris.

Thanks for your posts. Any hotel recommendations in Marais? Just realized I%26#39;ll be in Paris over Passover - will a good majority of the shops and restaurants be closed in the Marais area? Thanks again!

Definitely stay in the Marais. You might look into some apartments instead of a hotel, the Marais has lots of them tucked in which are large and comfortable. Shops should be open no problem.

Another vote for the Marais unless you enjoy the whole tourist aspect. My advice is to stay in the Marais and visit the tourist attractions in the Latin Quarter - after all it%26#39;s very close by.

Well, I suspect the Marais has just as many tourists these days as the Latin Quarter, so I don%26#39;t think that%26#39;s a useful criterion. But either area is within walking distance of the main attractions and there is certainly no shortage of shops, restaurants, bars, etc. in either.

hiya, Latin Quarter gets my vote - have a look at TimHotel Latin Quarter on the Rue Monge. Good location and lots of good restaurants and bars nearby for evening entertainment !
|||
Either is very close to most things you will want to see and visit, such as Notre Dame. My preference would be the Latin Quarter but you would definitely want to explore the Marais area as well.
Try the Hotel du Commerce. It is well situated and very good value.

second the comment re the Marais having just as many tourists as the Latin Quarter today.

Thanks to all for your assistance!
