My husband and I will be visiting France and Switzerland for several weeks in July and would like to go on as many beautiful day hikes as we can. We don%26#39;t want to go on any planned walking/hiking tours. I am having trouble finding information on hikinf trails around the country without knowing specifically where. If you know of any good resources or know of some good hikes please let me know.
Thanks!!

The best website is http://www.ffrandonnee.fr/ and if you then click on %26#39;itineraires%26#39; you can get 700 %26#39;ideés randos%26#39; via a map of France.
Trails are very well marked in France - both GR (Grande Randonnée) which tend to be long, point to point routes, and PR (Promenade et Randonnée, apparently, though I always assumed it was Petite Randonnée) which are local routes, often circular.
There are guide books - Topo-Guides - which you can order via Amazon, though they are readily available in the area they relate to. As far as I know, they are only in French, though the maps themselves are easy to follow without the written explanation.
Most tourist offices in walking areas will have routes available too, which can be quite instructive - I like walks round vineyards :-)
