I am visiting Cannes, St-Tropez in end December, please advise some restaurants with good food, love Italian and French
|||
Haven%26#39;t been in December, but there are quie a few restaurants around the Place des Lices in St. Trop. We ate ate the Cafe des Arts(of Rolling Stones fame!) and had a great Plat du Jour of mussels and frites plus dessert for around 15 euros each.

Hi,
Cannes will be as vibrant as always in December (though, IMO, not the best place for fine food). You%26#39;ll find many restaurants - I have not been overly impressed by a Cannes resto recently, so perhaps someone else will have a recommendation.
On the other hand, St.Tropez will be quiet in December. I like La Ponche in St Tropez. It%26#39;s a smaller hotel with a restaurant, all by the beach of La Ponche in the old town of St.Tropez. You should check to make sure they are open in December as some do close a few weeks in Winter. (http://www.laponche.com). There are some good restaurants in nearby Grimaud and Ste.Maxime. One that%26#39;s a bit pricey but nice with fresh French food is Le Coteau Fleuri in Grimaud. www.coteaufleuri.fr
Have fun!

Joseph Escale on the front at St Tropez is open all year round. The front section is enclosed by glass and so is nice and light even if it is raining. It%26#39;s all white and chrome, trendy with sand on the floor.

Don%26#39;t go anywhere near Joseph L%26#39;Escale on the front (or their other two restaurants in St Tropez - Le Grand Joseph and Le Quai Joseph). We went with friends and they totally tried to have us over. We went with friends we hadn%26#39;t seen for months and when my friend said he%26#39;d like to buy a bottle of pink champagne their starting point was a bottle of Krug at €1,100 - the most expensive on their wine list. They pushed and pushed us to buy the most expensive items on the menu and even when they asked if we would like a bottle of water they brought two. Forget this place, it%26#39;s a total rip off. Wait until Le Girelier has reopened - it%26#39;s far better value and they don%26#39;t try to rip you off.

Go to Aux Bons Enfants (rue Meynadier). Three courses for about €22 a head, good choice of courses. Ideally you have to book but they don%26#39;t have a telephone. Excellent restaurant!!

Haven%26#39;t been to St Tropez for about six years and are returning in June, staying in Port Grimaud. Fascinated by restaurant news, would love to have up to date views. We take the view that quayside places in St T are for people watching and maybe buying the most expensive coffee or ice cream ever, but not a meal. Have enjoyed La Ponche in the past, and the restaurant next door, can%26#39;t remember name. There was a Britanny type pancake plaee before, is it still there?
|||
Yes, there still is a tiny Creperie towards the tip end of the people-watching quarry, by the pier, beyond Le Senequier. Nothing Provençal about the creperie, but it%26#39;s a decent for a quick bite.
It%26#39;s funny how many Creperies you%26#39;ll find just about anywhere in France (inexpensive to make %26amp; usually to purchase, and always a pleasure to eat).
La Ponche is a great and more pricey restaurant. You%26#39;ll find lots of other good ones around town such as Le Sporting by the Place des Lices. I found Le Sporting open this winter with plenty of St Tropez residents coming by.
Bon appetit!

Thank you for that! Looking forward to it, we have always stayed on Kon Tiki campsite on Pampellone beach in the past but couldn%26#39;t make the dates work this time, so are in Prairies de la Mer, which will probably be noisier for us, but as we have 19 year old son and girlfriend with us they will probably be able to get out and about more independently being there. We are also flying instead of driving, found a Ryanair Manchester-Marseille that fits in, though doubtless they will move it or cancel it before June... roll on summer~!

Cote de Fleuri looks fab, I can see an offspring-less lunch coming on!!

Do you mean the Coteau Fleuri? If so it is in Grimaud not St Tropez. It is not as highly rated as it used to be.
If you fancy an adult lunch you might like to look at Auberge la Verdoyante which is just next to the vineyard of Chateau Minuty - you can reach out and touch the vines. You need to be (as you look at the bay) to the left to also have great views over the bay of St Tropez. It has a mainly French cliental.
IMO a perfect place for a meal, but very French.
