Giverny compared to Les Andelys

Hi

while staying at the Marriott Villas near Disney, we plan to drive to Giverny. Based on the posts, I am thinking we could spend serveral hours exploring the town and home/gardens. I notice that the town of Les Andelys seems to be not too far away,

What is this town like compared to Giverny, and how much time would it take to tour the castle? Any scenic spots to eat? Or is Giverny really where We should spend out time? We probably only have half a day because we need to be back to the Paris area by afternoon.

Thanks for any input.

Hi --

I often go to Giverny when I%26#39;m in Paris, but I%26#39;m a devoted Monet fan. I love to see how the gardens change over the seasons. For the rest of the world, I%26#39;m sure a one time trip will do the trick.

I always get there before opening so I have some time before the tour bus fleet arrives. There%26#39;s nothing quite like lining up your photograph only to have six people from a tour step in front of you because they believe your picture will be better than what they could take. It%26#39;s amazing how many tour takers seem to be joined at the hip when touring a site like Monet%26#39;s gardens, or even the Louvre.

If you arrive early, I would say you%26#39;d be happy with a 2-hour wander which would include tea in the little cafe. You%26#39;d have at least the same amount of time for Les Andelys, or perhaps even more, depending on when you have to return to Paris.

Bon voyage.

We enjoyed both places. We stopped for a very short visit in Giverny to see the gardens only. The town looked very inviting and it would have been nice to spend more time there. We got to the Chateau Gaillard right before closing time (6pm). We spent probably an hour or maybe slightly longer walking both inside and out. It was a quiet and wonderful spot. A picnic right there would have been ideal (on a clear and warm day).
