day trip to Normandy?

We will be in Paris for 5 days this summer and are interested in visiting Normandy for a day - is it possible to do this in one day?

thanks

Hi --

As I read your post, this advertisement caught my eye --

www.gotoparis.net Full day and back to explore WWII sites; priced from $144US.

Just returned from 7 days in Paris. We took a one day tour to D-day sites in Normandy region. We hired a private tour guide who drove us the 3hours and took us to all of the D-day sites. It was a 13hour day. We slept on the way and got needed rest after 5 very busy days in Paris. This was one of the most beautiful and moving sites I have ever experienced. Visiting the American Cemetery was so moving, to see the number of brave Soldiers who lost their lives. This area of France was so breathtaking that we want to go back to visit. I wish we had planned 2 days there and less time in Paris.

We used www.paris.authentique.free.fr

Enjoy your trip

We just returned from our trip to Paris and visited Normandy for a day. We used Paris Vision -- I cannot recommend it though. It was very expensive (198 euros) and the guide only provided information while we were at the sites. I felt he was just %26quot;acting%26quot; and not really enjoying. It is a lot of travel and you only get to see a little. But I guess it%26#39;s better than nothing and I%26#39;m hoping to be able to go back and spend more time in the Normandy area.

When in Europe in 1995 we stayed in Bayeaux one night and took a private tour of the battlefields in Normandy. It was an amazing tour. It was just my husband and I. I was a history teacher and I still learned so much.

Last summer we returned to Paris with our three children (ages 9, 7 and 4). We stayed in Paris, but had a rental car. We drove up to Mont St. Michel and spent the night on the Mont. The next day we woke up and drove to Arromanches. We went through the museum there and had lunch. We drove the kids over to Pointe du Hoc and toured that and then took them over to the American Cemetary. You can imagine that we wouldn%26#39;t want to spend the money on a tour with children so small. And many of the details of our first trip to Normandy returned to us as we re-visited the sites.

The drive was around 4 hours, I think, from the Norman coast back to Paris. The train might be a better option, and if you can find a good tour from Paris, that might be the best way to do it. It would be a shame to go all the way to France and miss this crucial location in World History. But it WILL be a long day.

Having just returned from a stay in France, including 3 nights in Bayeux, I really think an overnight stay will give you proper introduction rather than a day trip. I realize that is not always a possibility, but it%26#39;s a far better option than the drive-by sightseeing you%26#39;ll do on a day trip. Normandy is not a town. It%26#39;s an enormous region that can%26#39;t be dented by a day trip. If you can stay a night there, get a daylong tour through Battlebus.

1BCTraveler, I cannot find the ad for $144. Was it on the website for gotoparis? That would be a great price.
